Finally good coffee we don't have to commute for! Joe and the Art of Coffee has quickly established itself as the only place on the Upper West where serious coffee drinkers gather. It's a joyous place where all the UWS collides; parents with their kids in tow, runners coming in from the park, morning commuters, artists, etc. The tables are tight but – it's New York! And that contributes to the community getting to know one another better. The coffee is superb. The baristas are very knowledgeable and willing to teach all the newbies about their drinks, undoing years of damage from the unmentionable coffee chain that has proliferated the UWS for far too long. They serve a featured coffee up until 11:00 am which is generally lighter than their house blend and not to be missed. After that, I'd go with the latte or the americano. And stay. It always taste much better in a mug and you never know what interesting people you'll meet.
