There seems to always be a line here. Espresso machine is a push button thingy - so where they lack in tastiness, they make up for in consistency. Lots of people working here usually, but the wireless isn't free. One plus, however, is they are very puppy friendly and dole out free snacks.

I'm a creature of habit. I go to The Bean every Saturday and Sunday, order a triple macchiato with a little extra milk (the blonde girl with glasses or the smily skinny guy with the bandana make it best), and stand around until a bench opens up outside so I can people watch along 1st Avenue. The Bean is very much a neighborhood social gathering - a coming and going of familiar faces, familiar dogs, etc. I wouldn't travel to the East Village for a coffee at The Bean, but if you're a local you must check it out. Also worth mentioning: their size small cups are bigger than most nearby coffee shops. Think Coffee and the Roasting Plant have those super-small sized cups. I feel silly drinking out of them.
